Founded by Frank Pineda and Florence Jaugey, CAMILA FILMS is an independent film and video production company based in Nicaragua since 1989. Its main objectives are to reflect cultural and social aspects of life in Nicaragua and the rest of Central America. Its latest productions deal with the ways of life in the marginalized sectors of our society.
Our productions have been internationally acclaimed and have won prestigious awards such as a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1998 and the International Prize of the Author’s Society (SCAM) in Festival Films du Réel. Paris, 2002.
We have also worked in collaboration with international productions filmed in Nicaragua, such as Parallax Pictures for Ken Loach’s “Carla’s Song”; Universal Pictures for Alex Cox’s “Walker”; and also with the BBC, Channel 4, PBS, TF1, Hallmark Channel, TVE, and others.
As of 2003, Camila Films became the Camila Films Cinematographic Foundation, whose objective is to broaden its activities to include feature production and the dissemination of Nicaraguan cinematography.
In 2008 we produced the first Nicaraguan feature of the last 20 years, La Yuma. The film was selected to represent Nicaragua in the Oscars 2011. In 2014, we released our second feature: La Pantalla Desnuda (Naked Screen). The film was broadcast by HBO and Fox. In 2016, Cinéma du Réel Film Festival in Paris focus Florence Jaugey and Frank Pineda work with a tribute to their documentary films.
